Episode 027: Theresa Drouin-Guerette

Anne sits down with Theresa Drouin-Guerette, a.k.a Terri Spins. Terri uses her spinning skills as a living history interpreter, teaches spinning across the United States, and writes for Ply, Spin-off, and The Wheel. Listen in as they talk about Terri’s journey, breed-specific fiber, and more!

Since recording, the Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival has announced that Terri will be their featured mentor at their event in Tunbridge, Vermont, on October 3 – 4, 2020. She will also be teaching three classes at the Interweave Yarn Fest in Loveland, Colorado, from April 29 – May 3, 2020.

Terri’s Sample Book

In the episode, we flipped through Terri’s fleece sample book. Have a peek at a few pages below!

Icelandic sheep have a dual coat. The fiber that grows closer to their skin is more “wooly,” while the longer fiber is more hair like. Both fiber types grow together over the animal and the longer, hair-like fibers are generally trimmed before spinning.
This Border Leicester sampler shows that effect that plying can have on the loftiness of the resulting yarn.
The Coopworth is a nice example of higher-luster fibers.
